Remedy
Before I began this quest, I wasn't aware that I was living with sub-optimal health. And that a fundamental underlying problem could cause it to deteriorate over the years. You could call it a flaw. One that's difficult to see and even harder to explain.
On this website I explain in detail what I found. I believe it's important that this explanation is scientifically sound and well-substantiated. At the same time, I want it to remain attractive and readable for as many readers as possible. That's why I hide additional information behind boxes here and there. You can open them by clicking on them, for scientific depth and further background.
Understanding the underlying systems and mechanisms provides technical insight and helps with finding problems and “debugging” the whole. As an engineer, I saw how the human organism appears to be built around recognizable principles that ensure stability, resilience, and resistance. With feedback control systems, built-in redundancy, and repair mechanisms. Via enzymes, co-enzymes, hormones, and pro-hormones.
But decisions taken in the middle of the last century have resulted in a very subtle throwing of sand into that wonderful machine.
Stop the Madness
After studying this website, it will be clear to you that since the mid-20th century, we have been systematically ingesting two dangerous substances that are thoroughly added to our food. There is almost no escape from this, certainly if we are not aware of it. Moreover, we are told that we can easily become deficient in these “vitamins”, which is why more than half of the population even incurs costs to administer supplements to themselves. How do we stop this madness?
The solution is very simple: close the factories that are now artificially producing thousands of tons of these fake vitamins A and D every year. Stop adding them to all those supermarket products and animal feed. Explain to doctors that it was a mistake. That they have been acting wrongly all these years, even creating victims.
We all know that is not going to happen. Or as our friend and engineer Grant Genereux put it: 1)
My bet is that it will never happen. There’s just too much money at stake for that to be allowed to happen. Moreover, governments will never, ever, admit to making such a colossal mistake.
And in 2011, scientist and engineer Dr. Trevor Marshall (PhD) wrote:
IMO, the wholesale supplementation of the population with vitamin D is the biggest mistake medicine has ever made. A bigger mistake than Thalidomide, bigger than Fen-Phen, the biggest mistake by far, and most likely it will become catastrophic in magnitude before sanity can be restored to public policy.
Do It Yourself
We're on our own and will have to make an effort to avoid the consequences of this flaw. This can start by identifying all contaminated products. A very effective approach is to stop consuming animal products. Vitamin A and vitamin D don't occur at all in the plant kingdom! But note: in the Fungi kingdom, the fungi (mushrooms), we do find D2. Vitamin D3 is a natural, animal-based substance. So is vitamin A.
Vegans clearly have an advantage. They almost only need to avoid supplements containing A and D. But what can non-vegans do? It's important to read all labels in the supermarket before making a purchase. Added A and D must always be declared on the ingredients list. However, they end up in animal products via animal feed. They're there without needing to be declared.
WHO Intervention
Reducing concentrations of A and D is not easy for everyone. It becomes more difficult as more has been allowed to accumulate over the years. In 1972, John Travis devised the Illness–Wellness Continuum, a beautiful graphic representation of our well-being. The world looks very different now: three-quarters of a century after the adjustment by the WHO of the “standardization and requirements” for vitamin A and vitamin D and their mandatory addition to margarines, most folks 75 years and older are chronically ill. 2)3)
In the beautifully colored continuum, we move from relatively healthy to chronically ill between birth and death. Ultimately, we almost all end up chronically ill, starting around middle age. The chance of going round in circles in the medical merry-go-round then increases significantly.
Intense detox
As we age, more and more A and D accumulate in the liver, making it harder to eliminate them. Grant Genereux devised a “prison diet” to detoxify himself. He was so strict with himself that he even stopped eating all brightly colored fruits and vegetables. It was a difficult journey, but his determination saved his life. His health improved on all fronts. Trevor Marshall did it his own way, applying molecular research. He discovered how a pharmaceutical drug could help him get on his way and how it could moderate the intense detox reactions in an acceptable manner.
For these two pioneers, who were both told they had only a short time left to live, the road back to health was long and arduous. They led the way, forging a path with progressive insights. They demonstrated the importance of timely vitamin minding. So that the imaginary line, which now lies around middle age, doesn't have to be crossed and can be postponed to later.
